Shabott again- very quiet, careful with elevators, no hot food or OJ squeezing to be done, no toaster, breads are day old, even coffee is bad as it was kept warm all night. But we do have cute coffee boys providing us with a steady stream so we are very happy. After breakfast we have a lecture and conversation with a Palestinian woman journalist- most interesting and very different situation from that presented by our Israeli guide.
Next went to the Museum of the Dead Sea Scrolls to see the ancient documents- lovely but very darkly lit museum. National museum is closed so the stop is fairly brief. The basement has a display of 10th C. Aleppo Codex - Nancy met a little boy who was very excited there- turns out his great grandfather saved the documents from burning when the Synagogue it was in burned down. The documents were then smuggled into Jeruselem. The boys parents helped to explain as his English was limited.
Traffic today is very light so easily drove to parlement building to view it and the giant menorah across the street- a gift from England and the National symbol.
It's 3 in the afternoon now. We have some free time so are at the hotel smuggling computer time while the internet monitor is not here because of Shabott. We will walk up to the King David Hotel next and see it as well as the YMCA building. Dinner we are being taken to an Arab restaurant by our busdriver. Then we are going to a folkdance show at the YMCA. Will be a late night and must pack up for the Dead Sea.
I love the picture at the top! It looks very much like you are in a foreign land. how neat to meet the grandson of the guy who saved the documents in the museum!
