Today we felt the Golan Heights and the Galilee area. We drove down the western dide of the Galilee where we visited several holy sites. First was the Capernaum and a Franciscan church contilevered over the ruins of a 4th C chuch built by Helena, mother of Mysantine Emporer Constantine. She built that to commemorate the house where Jesus was known to stay. Part of that was excavated. Behind was an ancient Synagogue built like a Roman Bascilica with columns and carved marble showing the fruits of the land and the Jewish cross.
Then we went to Tabgha where Jesus was said to have fed the multitudes by multiplying the bread and fish. This church was in the style of an early 10th-12th C. Christian church- stone walls and wood roof with alabaster windows and mosaic floors. In the center was a glass which showed the excavated church- another of Helena's projects- under it. Excitment mounted as several Hydrax were spotted on the rocks! Something between a rabbit and a rat.
