Today started off with the Holocost museum- Yad Vashem. It takes 4 yrs for the readers to read all the names and places of the children who died- with the reflections everywhere it looked like the milky way. The remembrance hall floor was made up of 6 million small tiles- one for every peson killed. The park around is planted with trees for each person or group that helped the jews. The main museum is a long slender hall across the mt. with an opening and balcony at the end which symbolizes hope for the future. We went to a talk by a woman (Hanna Gold) who was a close friend of Anne Frank and she told us about her life and Anne's and how she survived the war - moving from Germany to England to Holland, where she met Ann and became her best friend. She lost her parents as well as Anne. Mr. Frank and her grandmother and sister survived.
After lunch of ice cream we went to the market. We enjoyed the sights and smells in the market, especially the wonderful fresh bread. I got some spicy pepper in the market too.
We next went to the Citadel in the old city. Just inside the4 massive gate, hanging high what do we see but a glass Chihuly sculpture. What a great surprise! Side rooms hold the museum which included diaramas and showed the history and how this spot has been changed. The architecture dates back to the 1-2 C. BC with large additions by King Herod and Soleman the Magnificent. A wedding couple was being photographed there so of course we enjoyed this as well.
Our day ended with beer and pizza in the lobby bar with some of our new friends and a few trips outside to check on another wedding happening next door. We took turns peeking thru the fence to see what was happening.
